Are you a 'smaller creator'? You may love this IG update!

Instagram just announced that they are changing who see your content first and this could be a HUGE benefit to smaller creators. To learn more, watch this short video.

THEN head to the bottom of this post to learn how you can take advantage of this opportunity ๐Ÿ‘

"Smaller creators historically haven’t gotten their fair share of reach on Instagram, and we want to change that. So we’re making some changes to how we rank recommendations to give smaller creators a better chance of breaking through. We are rolling this out slowly but hope smaller creators start to see the benefits over the coming months." - Adam Mosserri, CEO of Instagram

Basically, Instagram is making a shift towards recommending your content to people who don't follow you in your niche right off the hop. Whereas before, your content would go to a small pool of your own audience first, and if the response was good, they would then push it out to a broader audience.

With this switch in the algorithm, they are claiming it will give "every Reel a chance". Interesting right?

So what can we learn from this information?

1. Assume nobody knows who you are.
With this switch, you need to assume that the first people who are watching your Reel have no CLUE who you are. Be intentional with your scripting to make sure ANYONE watching can have the context they need for your video to make sense. Example: Referencing a video you posted two weeks ago may have been okay when your content was first being served to your following, but now a broad audience is going to have no clue what the heck you are talking about.

2. Keep it niche specific.
Finding your niche is all the buzz & for good reason! As Adam mentioned in his video, if the platform identifies your past content in the 'Comedy' niche, staying in your lane will give your future content a better shot (since it is going to be served to that community first).

3. SEO is more important than ever
I sent out an email and wrote a blog post at the beginning of the year, but making sure you are optimizing SEO in your content (and your bio) is now more important than ever! This is how the algorithm is going to choose who they serve your content to.

What do you think? Are you excited about this change? Skeptical? Kinda pissed your own audience isn't necessarily going to be the first to watch your content?

(I feel like I'm personally a combination of the three lol)

Until next time โœŒ๏ธ
